I love betting on great coaches with extra time to prepare. That obviously applies here, as Nick Saban will know how to attack the Irish. Meanwhile, Notre Dame will lose its 719th-consecutive bowl game.

The sharps are betting the Buckeyes, and I'm not quite sure why. Ohio State's secondary is trash, so Trevor Lawrence won't have an issue torching it. Meanwhile, Justin Fields was dealing with an injury late in the year. I'm not sure if he's healthy yet, but if he's not, he won't be able to keep up with Lawrence.

College Football Pick: Clemson -7 -108 (2 Units) - Bookmaker.
Texas A&M vs. North Carolina. Line: Texas A&M by 7.5. Saturday, 8:00 p.m.
Texas A&M got absolutely screwed by the college football playoff committee. They deserved to make the playoff over both Notre Dame and Ohio State. However, they're just not going to have the motivation to play this game over a nondescript North Carolina squad.
Ohio State vs. Alabama. Line: Alabama by 9. Monday, 8:00.
We had two tough beats in earlier picks, but Ohio State covering was not one of them. The Buckeyes were terrific against Clemson, as Justin Fields was much healthier than he was in the Big Ten championship. He got banged up in the semi-final, but with extra time to heal, he should be fine for this game. If so, I like him to cover the spread. I love getting a touchdown or more with great quarterbacks, as there will definitely be back-door potential. I like Alabama to win this game, but the Buckeyes should be able to keep it close.

NFL Point Spread Pick.
Well, we made it to the end of the season. It’s sad to see the NFL winding down, but we’ve still got one great game left as the Kansas City Chiefs and Tampa Bay Buccaneers square off in the Super Bowl. Patrick Mahomes will get his chance at revenge on Tom Brady after falling to him in the AFC Championship game two seasons ago.
Oddsmakers have the Chiefs as a three-point favorite, which feels a bit light to me for several reasons. One factor to keep in mind here is that the game is being played in the Buccaneers’ stadium, although I don’t think there will be any home-field advantage to speak of. There will be a limited amount of fans at the game, and many of those tickets are being given away by the league. It’s not as if there is going to be a huge contingent of loud Bucs fans, and if anything I wouldn’t be surprised if Chiefs fans end up outnumbering them.
Moving to the on-field matchup, I don’t see how the Chiefs fail to have success throwing the ball. Tampa’s young secondary is exploitable, and every time they’ve faced a quarterback who can push it downfield they’ve been exposed. They might have looked good against an aging Drew Brees with a torn labrum, but the week before that they made Taylor Heinicke look like a franchise quarterback. The Chiefs won by three points when these teams played in Tampa during the regular season, but the game wasn’t as close as that final score indicates. Kansas City was up 17 in the fourth quarter before a couple of late Bucs touchdowns closed the margin. Remember, this is a Tampa Bay team that won all of one game against teams with winning records during the regular season and their playoff run has been very flukey thus far. Brady was mostly horrible against Green Bay as he tossed three interceptions, and it took an extreme series of miscues by the Packers for them to win that game. Their luck may finally run out here.
NFL Game Totals Pick.
The under also makes some sense here because everybody seems to be underrating this Chiefs defense. Kansas City defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo used the regular season to tinker with his schemes, and he’s been a wizard so far in the playoffs. He just completely shut down Josh Allen and that vaunted Buffalo passing game, limiting Allen to just 6.0 yards per attempt– and that number actually got inflated a lot by garbage time. Again, Brady hasn’t actually played well the past couple of weeks; his opponents just gifted him countless easy opportunities. Against the Saints, Tampa Bay’s three touchdown drives went for a combined 63 yards because of the short fields they were given off turnovers. Playing the Chiefs now, they aren’t going to be so fortunate with the starting field position.
While I think the Chiefs’ offense will have opportunities for success, they aren’t going to cover this number by themselves. Tampa Bay’s pass-rush could potentially pose some problems, especially with Mahomes less mobile due to the turf toe he is dealing with. Those problems will only be exacerbated by the absence of left tackle Eric Fisher, who tore his Achilles in the AFC Championship game. This Kansas City secondary is legit and their pass-rush really came alive against Buffalo. The Buccaneers’ defensive front, with the recently healed Vita Vea, should wreak enough havoc to keep this one from going over a total in the mid-50s.

Scott Ferrall has been off his nightly CBS Sports Radio show since Jan. 7.
No announcement has been made regarding Ferrall’s future at CBS Sports Radio, but the longtime on-air personality is no longer listed on the network’s website. Instead of Ferrall on the Bench , CBS Sports Radio’s schedule only states “rotating host” for the timeslot. So far, Jody McDonald and Chris Moore have filled in for the show.
CBS Sports Radio retooled their lineup at the start of the new year, moving Damon Amendolara to mornings, adding Pat McAfee in the midday and Zach Gelb for weeknights. At the time, Ferrall on the Bench was named in its usual 10pm – 2am timeslot in the Entercom press release. But just one week later, the 54-year old radio host was off the airwaves.
Scott Ferrall has finally broken his silence. He took to Twitter on Wednesday to say that there is no reason to worry about his future and that something very good is in the works.

Ferrall has filled the weeknight hours on CBS Sports Radio since the national network launched in 2013. Prior to joining CBS Sports Radio, Ferrall spent seven years with SiriusXM, hosting mostly on Howard 101. Scott Ferrall (born July 29, 1965) is an American sports talk radio personality who currently broadcasts for CBS Sports Radio with the program Ferrall on the Bench . His raspy voice is easily recognizable.
Scott Ferrall’s career began at the University of Indiana where from 1983-1987 he covered their legendary basketball and soccer teams while also DJ’ing on local commercial radio station WBWB for which he eventually earned a broadcasting scholarship. In 1987, after college, Ferrall got a job at KQV in his hometown of Pittsburgh as a news reporter and quickly moved up to Sports Director where he did morning and afternoon drive sports updates as well his covering his beloved Pirates, Penguins and Steelers. Ferrall left KQV in 1990 to go to go to Chicago where he covered the Chicago Blackhawks and White Sox. In 1992, Scott worked on the Sports Entertainment Network out of Las Vegas. In 1993, he went to Atlanta to work on WCNN (The Fan) as their afternoon drive host.
In 1994, Ferrall made the move back out west where he hosted Ferrall OnThe Bench nightly on KNBR in San Francisco and was simulcasted on TV nationally on SportsChannel. Things really took off for Ferrall from there as he moved his show to Los Angeles in 1995 to be nationally nationally on Westwood One and continued here until 1999. During this time he also co-hosted “This Week in the NHL” nationally on Westwood One with Don Crique (’94-’99), did sports for MTV (’95-’98) and Co-Hosted TV’s “Battledome” (’98-’99) with Steve Albert.
In 1999 Scott decided to accept a new challenge and follow the sport that held his deepest passion by being the radio play by play voice of that NHL’s expansion Atlanta Thrashers. Ferrall went back to national sports talk to following year when he became the evening host on Sportsfan Radio Network in Las Vegas. When Sportsfan went under a year later, Ferrall went to New York where he worked on the legendary WFAN, then ESPN Radio New York and then took over mornings on WNEW. After a scandal with another show on WNEW caused massive changes at the station, Ferrall made his way down to Miami where he hosted mornings on WQAM. Next, he moved back up to Atlanta where he hosted on WMAX while also being part of “Mancow’s Morning Madhouse”. After his station flipped formats, Ferrall moved over to Fox Sports Radio where he was again nationally syndicated.
In 2006, Scott was brought over to the newly created Howard 101 on Sirius Satellite Radio to host The Ferrall Show, even though Howard Stern was not a fan of sports. Ferrall had earned the legendary broadcaster’s respect while competing against him during his time at WNEW (when Stern was nationally syndicated out of WXRK) and felt that like himself, Ferrall was a great radio talent that had been treated poorly by the industry.
In 2013, Ferrall went back to terrestrial radio to revive Ferrall on the Bench, and become part of the newly launched national sports network CBS Sports Radio as their 10PM-2AM ET host where he can still be heard weeknights.


Scott Ferrall Exits CBS Sports Radio For SportsGrid Video Gambling Shows.
Scott Ferrall has exited as host of the 10pm-2am slot on CBS Sports Radio and will join SportsGrid to host a pair of live video shows on their sports gambling platform.
Ferrall will debut on Wednesday, January 29 as host of Scott Ferrall: Coast to Coast from 4-6pm eastern and In-Game LIVE from 7-9pm. The shows are described as serving “the obsessed frenetic sports fan with live pre-game and in-game wagering odds, moneylines, statistics, strategies and insights with expert gaming analysis from Scott and his many guests”.
CBS Sports Radio will use fill-in hosts in his late night slot.

п»їNFL Preview: Experts' Predictions Analysis.
This is the fun part of football, where everyone pretends to be an expert by making playoff predictions for the 09-10 NFL season. I warn you, as the common internet reader, that this predicting gig should only be left to experts. The media members who get paid to follow the NFL have more knowledge, background, and understanding of what has happened and what is going to happen this season. Well, at least they think they do.
Below is the amount of new playoff teams that have made the playoffs each year since the playoffs expanded to 12 teams in 1990-1991.
In 16 of the 18 years, 5, 6 or 7 new teams have made the playoffs. When making predictions for the upcoming season, no matter which teams are predicted, the experts should pick at least 5 new playoff teams. This is pretty common knowledge that the NFL is constantly changing and new teams come out of nowhere. It’s common knowledge to us, obviously not to the NFL experts. I reviewed 31 predictions from NFL experts (in honor of the amount of blackouts Jacksonville, Oakland, Detroit and St. Louis will have combined) and below are the results.
7 New Playoff Teams – 1 out of 31 – Don Banks of CNNSI – He used intelligent analysis to guess that the NFC will have a lot of turnover and since 3 of the last 4 years 7 new teams have made the playoffs, 7 is a pretty smart guess.
6 New Playoff Teams – 3 out of 31 – Hub Arkush of Pro Football Weekly, Adam Schefter of ESPN and Seth Wickersham of ESPN – These 3 analysts reviewed schedules and made some bold predictions, yet they are definitely possible. All possibilities except Hub’s pick of the Bills to make the playoffs. I’ll get to the team analysis in a bit.
5 New Playoff Teams – 2 out of 31 – Peter King of CNNSI and Gene Wojciehowksi of ESPN – Two respected football journalists who mostly picked different teams yet came to the same conclusion, just because a team was good in 08 doesn’t mean they will be in 09.
The Passive Predictors:
I have to take a moment out to point out Peter Schrager, a very knowledgeable writer who lives on the edge. His sleeper team was the Bears, go crazy man. From that wild prediction article I pull this quote “Since 1996, 78 teams have made the playoffs after not qualifying the previous season — exactly 50% of the 156 playoff teams over that span . 2008 also marked the 13th consecutive season with at least five new playoff teams in the field of 12.” With that knowledge he picked 4 new teams. Fox Sports must initiate some sadistic torture ritual if a writer guesses too many wrong teams in his predictions.
The Football Experts in Name Only:
I’m sure Gregg Easterbrook is a lightning rod for fans, since he does have a lot of strong opinions about football. His punting and passive play analysis is some of the best information I’ve seen a writer discuss in years. Yet with all of the information in terms of facts he puts out there, he picks 3 teams. He also writes an annual bad prediction article, and that probably explains his incredible passiveness in his picks. He should have gone for it.
2 New Playoff Teams – 6 out of 31 – The Sporting News Staff, Jeffri Chahida, John Clayton, Tim Graham, Jeremy Green and Matt Mosley of ESPN – Consider once again that all of them picked New England, and all 6 of these predictions involve picking one new team. They somehow believe that out of 7 new playoff teams from last year, 5 of them will make it again. Since 1991, that has also never happened. The last 4 years only 1, 2, 2 and 2 teams have returned for a 2 nd playoff year. Why do the predictions if they put zero thought or effort into them? At least the ESPN guys were terrible individually; the Sporting News staff had to agree on their awful predictions. I think you seriously have to question their football knowledge if they believe that the NFL will be almost exactly the same as last year.
The Brain Dead Vegetables:
1 New Playoff Team – 2 out of 31 – Bob McManaman of the Arizona Republic and James Walker of ESPN – They both picked New England to make the playoffs. Either a 3 year old or the pet parrot or a house plant must have made these picks. These dummies actually believe that the NFC will have the same 6 teams from last year, which of course is almost impossible. Supreme moron Bob actually has the same NFC division winners and wild cards. The odds of that happening are about 1 in 1700. I take offense to this as a sports fan because these two guys are writing to people as experts, and they might as well be making job forecasts (somehow job forecast results are always unexpected, maybe hire some new prognosticators). I hope everyone reading this would be embarrassed to hand those in as predictions and have the predictions published for the internet world to read.
Now onto the team analysis and one thing I’ve learned from studying the media closely the last few years. Groupthink is lethal.
Consensus - The Steelers, Chargers and Patriots were picked by all 31 experts to make the playoffs - All of them picked San Diego and New England to win the division. I can see that because of the competition, but not one person took a chance with a different team. New England should win the East, but they are one Brady injury away from a lot of trouble and Miami should still be competitive. The Chargers were 5-8 at one point last year. Are they really worthy of consensus, with Norv Turner as the coach, even if any of the other 3 teams winning would be stretch? The consensus teams of last year were the Cowboys and the Patriots, and we saw how well that worked out for them.
Almost Consensus - The Giants and Eagles were picked by 28 experts and the Colts by 27 experts – The Giants play in a tough division and have a lot of offensive questions. The Eagles are going to take a separate article to show why they won’t make the playoffs. The Colts have two major things going against them. Since 1983, only 1 team has made the playoffs 8 years in a row and that was the 49ers from 83-90. Also, 8 times in the last 9 years, the #5 seed in the AFC have not made the playoffs. With a new coach and a questionable defense, the Colts look far from a sure thing.
Popular Picks – The Falcons, Ravens and Titans were picked by 25 experts – The Ravens and Falcons both came up from bad records the previous year with rookie quarterbacks to make the playoffs. In the last 6 years, 15 teams rose up from 6 wins or less to make the playoffs. Only 3 of them returned to the playoffs the next year. Out of the Dolphins, Falcons and Ravens, at least two of them are not going back.
The rest of the totals are below, and as you can see a lot of teams are already written off. I guarantee at least 1 of those teams with 0 or 1 or 2 people picking them makes the playoffs. How the experts picked the rest of the lot:
18 experts - Packers.
17 experts – Cardinals.
12 experts – Seahawks.
11 experts – Saints.
8 experts – Cowboys and Bears.
6 experts – Panthers and Texans.
3 experts – 49ers.
2 experts – Jaguars, Bengals, Dolphins and Bills (good luck with that)
1 expert – Jets and Redskins.
Nobody – Chiefs, Raiders, Broncos, Browns, Lions, Rams and Bucs.
AFC Fans. Don’t bother watching the regular season since the playoff teams have already been decided by the experts. The Patriots, Steelers, Colts, Chargers, Titans and Ravens are making the playoffs. They are picking a 6 team exacta, and football gamblers know how often those pay off. Thanks football geniuses.

I’m sure Gregg Easterbrook is a lightning rod for fans, since he does have a lot of strong opinions about football. His punting and passive play analysis is some of the best information I’ve seen a writer discuss in years. Yet with all of the information in terms of facts he puts out there, he picks 3 teams. He also writes an annual bad prediction article, and that probably explains his incredible passiveness in his picks. He should have gone for it.
2 New Playoff Teams – 6 out of 31 – The Sporting News Staff, Jeffri Chahida, John Clayton, Tim Graham, Jeremy Green and Matt Mosley of ESPN – Consider once again that all of them picked New England, and all 6 of these predictions involve picking one new team. They somehow believe that out of 7 new playoff teams from last year, 5 of them will make it again. Since 1991, that has also never happened. The last 4 years only 1, 2, 2 and 2 teams have returned for a 2 nd playoff year. Why do the predictions if they put zero thought or effort into them? At least the ESPN guys were terrible individually; the Sporting News staff had to agree on their awful predictions. I think you seriously have to question their football knowledge if they believe that the NFL will be almost exactly the same as last year.
The Brain Dead Vegetables:
1 New Playoff Team – 2 out of 31 – Bob McManaman of the Arizona Republic and James Walker of ESPN – They both picked New England to make the playoffs. Either a 3 year old or the pet parrot or a house plant must have made these picks. These dummies actually believe that the NFC will have the same 6 teams from last year, which of course is almost impossible. Supreme moron Bob actually has the same NFC division winners and wild cards. The odds of that happening are about 1 in 1700. I take offense to this as a sports fan because these two guys are writing to people as experts, and they might as well be making job forecasts (somehow job forecast results are always unexpected, maybe hire some new prognosticators). I hope everyone reading this would be embarrassed to hand those in as predictions and have the predictions published for the internet world to read.
Now onto the team analysis and one thing I’ve learned from studying the media closely the last few years. Groupthink is lethal.
Consensus - The Steelers, Chargers and Patriots were picked by all 31 experts to make the playoffs - All of them picked San Diego and New England to win the division. I can see that because of the competition, but not one person took a chance with a different team. New England should win the East, but they are one Brady injury away from a lot of trouble and Miami should still be competitive. The Chargers were 5-8 at one point last year. Are they really worthy of consensus, with Norv Turner as the coach, even if any of the other 3 teams winning would be stretch? The consensus teams of last year were the Cowboys and the Patriots, and we saw how well that worked out for them.
Almost Consensus - The Giants and Eagles were picked by 28 experts and the Colts by 27 experts – The Giants play in a tough division and have a lot of offensive questions. The Eagles are going to take a separate article to show why they won’t make the playoffs. The Colts have two major things going against them. Since 1983, only 1 team has made the playoffs 8 years in a row and that was the 49ers from 83-90. Also, 8 times in the last 9 years, the #5 seed in the AFC have not made the playoffs. With a new coach and a questionable defense, the Colts look far from a sure thing.
Popular Picks – The Falcons, Ravens and Titans were picked by 25 experts – The Ravens and Falcons both came up from bad records the previous year with rookie quarterbacks to make the playoffs. In the last 6 years, 15 teams rose up from 6 wins or less to make the playoffs. Only 3 of them returned to the playoffs the next year. Out of the Dolphins, Falcons and Ravens, at least two of them are not going back.
The rest of the totals are below, and as you can see a lot of teams are already written off. I guarantee at least 1 of those teams with 0 or 1 or 2 people picking them makes the playoffs. How the experts picked the rest of the lot:
18 experts - Packers.
17 experts – Cardinals.
12 experts – Seahawks.
11 experts – Saints.
8 experts – Cowboys and Bears.
6 experts – Panthers and Texans.
3 experts – 49ers.
2 experts – Jaguars, Bengals, Dolphins and Bills (good luck with that)
1 expert – Jets and Redskins.
Nobody – Chiefs, Raiders, Broncos, Browns, Lions, Rams and Bucs.
AFC Fans. Don’t bother watching the regular season since the playoff teams have already been decided by the experts. The Patriots, Steelers, Colts, Chargers, Titans and Ravens are making the playoffs. They are picking a 6 team exacta, and football gamblers know how often those pay off. Thanks football geniuses.
